October greetings! Hope to see everybody tomorrow at our monthly event... 1st SATURDAY WORKSHOP & DANCE MOVED TO THE 2nd SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10th at SOUTH BAY DANCE CENTER in LOMITA! (Not to be confused w/ any venues in El Segundo area.)
This beautiful ballroom is 4,500 square feet with lots of seating! Note schedule & pricing changes. See link above (1st Saturday Monthly Event) for details. Ages 18 & up. BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverages). ALL STAR & CHAMPION DANCERS FREE!

DEJA VU!
Phil & I were recently at the market shopping. Phil chose the check-out line that didn't seem to have a wait. We walked up, & Phil looked around with a puzzled expression on his face. Then he looked at me & said, "Hmmm. The light is on, but nobody is home!" My reply... Welcome to my world (one of Phil's favorite lines)! Apparently the cashier had stepped away.

NEW WEDNESDAY CLASSES w/ PHIL at MEMORIES in WHITTIER... CHANGE IN STARTING DATE: OCTOBER 21st! Spread the word! Phil will be adding three classes to his weekly schedule:
6 pm Beginner Country 2-Step
7 pm Intermediate Country 2-Step
8 pm Beginner Nightclub 2-Step
(No partner needed; drop-ins welcome.) Classes $10 each.
UPDATE for MINDIA"S TUESDAY CLASSES
I'm hoping to resume my Tuesday classes in the next few weeks. I'm having negotiations with a studio owner, & will let everybody know as soon as something is confirmed. (Classes discontinued at Pops Dance Studio due to unavailability.)
SHARING THE CARING
Thank you for all of the kind words, donations & support around our family loss. We are blessed to have such a supportive dance community. You can still make donations at our event tomorrow, or mail to our PO Box (listed at the very bottom of the newsletter.) If you have been recently added to receive this newsletter, know that the last one was unusual with some heavier subjects. Most of the time we are more uplifting & fun. That reminds me of the story we hinted at from last time...
SEE FOR YOURSELF!
Many years ago, I was on a second date with you know who. He picked me up for the first time, driving his classy, red Cadillac! (Phil just pointed out that he must have been trying to impress me, because now he drives a Toyota. Does anybody have any thoughts about that?) While driving, he casually mentioned that he was legally blind in one eye. I'm trying to remember my initial thoughts of panic. Maybe something like... I should drive. What does legally blind mean exactly? Does he even have a license? Is there a way I can escape? Well, after all this time, my chauffeur has kept me completely safe. (And Phil does like to do most of the driving; he claims he gets motion sickness when others drive. Probably a control issue haha!)
So, just to give you an idea of his actual vision, I will tell you about my eye doctor visit. I was being tested with the eye chart (without my glasses or contacts), & I could not even see the big E on the screen, using both eyes. Phil came & stood next to me, & with his one good eye, read the bottom line of the chart. And here we sit together today, to share all these wonderful stories. Truth be told, Phil had a severe eye injury when he was nine, & was told that he would not have depth perception or good balance. The fact that he has become such an amazing & successful dance instructor is a miracle! Such an inspiration, on many levels. Phil is a messenger for us all to dream the impossible, & see for yourself!

*PUNCH CARDS! We have punch cards available for purchase: ten classes for $100 w/ the eleventh class FREE! You can use the card for my classes or Phil's classes. Punch cards do not expire. We do take credit cards in person or through our web-store.

Call You Out!
Here is where we get to pick on our readers (instead of each other)! We are calling out Alan & Eni for their interruptions in our class last night (but we could have said this at any time in the past year lol!) This lovely couple met through our dance classes, & now we have to deal with their overly affectionate nature! When they rotate to each other, they act as if they haven't seen each other for a year. So we have to wait for their re-union celebrations to finish, before we can start talking. I teased them about it, & Alan said that we were just jealous. So I looked at Phil & asked him where my warm hug & hello were. Didn't you miss me in the last five minutes? There was no response.

Payment & Options: DVDs are $35 each. Credit card payments are available in person, (or cash or check in person is fine also), or through our web store. If order your DVDs through our website, you have the option to click the "pick up at class" option (to avoid shipping charges), or you can have them shipped.

GUEST INSTRUCTORS CHRISTIAN COUNTRY ROUND-UP DANCE: ALL ARE WELCOME! FREE FOR FIRST TIMERS! Mad hatter theme! You can usually find us at the Clubhouse in Placentia (formerly the Atomic) on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the CCR Dance. We teach two Intermediate classes; EAST COAST SWING at 6:45pm, & the second class is usually WEST COAST SWING at 7:25pm. (Must know your basics; no partner needed). There is usually a theme & treats! (There are also Beginner classes.) Open Dancing is a mix of music. FIRST TIMERS FREE (except on a few special occasions). We are both available for private lessons there, but with limited space & time slots. Please schedule in advance.

COST: $20, or $15 for SoCal Christian Dance Club Members. Membership is only $20 for the entire year.
* All of our classes are drop-in (some do run in a series). No partner needed for any of our classes. No prior dance experience needed for Beginner classes. Two left feet are welcomed; we will introduce you to your right foot! (Phil wanted credit for that last comment.)
* Once you have moved up from our Beginner level classes to Intermediate and then later Advanced, you are welcome to continue taking our Beginner classes for FREE! We want to encourage you to continue working on your basics; that is most important to develop a strong foundation. The best dancers usually are the ones who have worked on their basics for years. When you keep taking Beginner classes, you are also helping the new students to progress faster, since they get to rotate & dance with more experienced dancers.
