NEW STUFF!
Of course Phil wants to start with the fact that the new record in the past year for our 1st Saturday event was reached last month at his Bday Party... 191 peoplel WOW! So, u know what that means. The pressure is on to beat that, especially at my upcoming Bday Party on September 10th haha! This will be one of those rare times that we move our monthly event to 2nd Saturday. (See more info below.) But there will be no guessing game (like in the last newsletter) about my age haha!
TODAY!!! AUGUST 6th: 1st SATURDAY WORKSHOP & SWING DANCE, & our 5 year Anniversary party!
Come get more cake haha! We ordered 2 different kinds... his & hers... since we offen disagree on things. He got red velvet, & I got a chocolate theme (of course)! Did we get your attention? In addition to having separate cakes, we have separate stories from 5 years ago, of how we ended up together haha! If u have not heard our individual versions, ask us at our party! SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd: 2016 INTERNATIONAL FLASHMOB WEST COAST SWING PERFORMANCE: VENUE CONFIRMED FOR 3rd STREET PROMENADE in SANTA MONICA!
Phil & I are very proud of our hard working students, getting ready for upcoming performances (we will add other venues/dates as well)! So much progress, & so much fun along the way. If u are not performing, come out & support! Performance will be around 6 or 6:30 pm on 3rd Street, between Arizona & Wilshire. There will be a salsa dance after... so stick around for the party!
We will add a few other local performances, such as at our 1st Saturday Event & our Thursday Dance, etc. *NOTE* No practices on Monday, August 22nd, or Wednesday, August 17th.
PERFORMER TIP!
Recently at a social dance, the DJ played the "Classic" flashmob song; Phil & I danced, along with some other couples who have been practicing the routine. After the song ended, off the floor, we asked about how it went. During the song, one of the guys dancing had glanced over at Phil, to make sure he was on track. He saw that Phil was on the opposite side than he was. He panicked, & figured that he had messed up & left a pattern out! What he didn't realize was that I had been leading Phil! (He makes such a stylish follower! Especially when following my lead haha!) Not only was Phil on the "wrong side," but also on the "wrong foot," with the "wrong arm styling!" Oops! So sorry I did not make it clear a head of time that I was the leader! I should call myself out.
*NOTE* Often during a performance, a leader or follower may look to another dancer to make sure they are in the right place, or to help get back on track if there was a glitch. There may be other ladies leading, or guys following, so make sure u know which role they are in haha! Easy to get confused.

JASPER CAT ADVENTURES!
So it seems that people are more often asking about Jasper (our recently adopted kitty) than about us haha! One of life's unforgettable moments for me: Phil got a call from the vet's office, & the message was an answer to one of my 50 questions. The office manager said, "Tell Jasper's Mom..." (something about resources). Heartwarming.
Jasper has surprised us from rooftops, & I have found paw prints on my car haha! He spends much time in our home, napping away. I heard that cats can nap up to 18 hours a day. Why didn't I get that schedule? Our friend said that he wanted to reincarnate as a cat! We have been blessed with Jasper's precious company. One of my favorite sounds in life is now Jasper purring! Ask us to see the "Like Father Like Son" pic of Phil & Jasper napping. They did not know I took the pic!

NEW BEGINNER SERIES JUST STARTED! COME THIS THURSDAY, AUG. 11th, & u can still sign up. Only $50 for another 7 weeks; includes social dance after class. No partner or experience needed. Aidan Keith-Hynes has been teaching our Beginner WCS series (drop-ins always welcome), & also DJing a set of great music later in the night! Here is where we get to pick on our readers (instead of each other)!
So last night, we went to teach at Blackout Fridays. Phil forgot to bring in my dance shoes (one of his many jobs), so he went back out to the car to get them. One of our students, Maryann, drove past him on her way to the parking lot, & told him to walk slower, so she wasn't late to class. Being the gentleman that he was, he waited in the parking lot for her. And waited. And waited. Then he saw her walk down the steps, clear on the other side of the parking lot. The shortcut to get to the studio. Phil is calling her out haha! Maybe she walked the other way, to avoid having rumors spread. LOL! Then Phil was rushing to get back to the studio for class... He came in & handed me a bag of shoes. They were his dance shoes! Was he trying to tell me that I needed to wear then for my leading? Haha!

We have two DVDs available, Beginner & Intermediate WCS. You can purchase them with a credit card in person (cash or check is fine also),or through our web store! More info about payment & options under Highlights.
PUNCH CARDS
We have punch cards available for purchase: ten classes for $100 w/ the eleventh class FREE! You can use the card for my classes or Phil's classes. Punch cards do not expire. We do take credit cards in person or through our web-store.

* We are available for PRIVATE LESSONS throughout the week; contact us to schedule. You get a $5 discount per DVD when you do a private.

Payment & Options: Dance DVSs are $35 each (plus tax if credit card payment).
Credit card payments are available in person, (or cash or check in person is fine also), or through our web store. If order your DVDs through our website, you have the option to click the "pick up at class" option (to avoid shipping charges), or you can have them shipped.

* All of our classes are drop-in (some do run in a series). No partner needed for any of our classes. No prior dance experience needed for Beginner classes. Two left feet are welcomed; we will introduce you to your right foot! (Phil wanted credit for that last comment.)
* Once you have moved up from our Beginner level classes to Intermediate and then later Advanced, you are welcome to continue taking our Beginner classes for FREE! We want to encourage you to continue working on your basics; that is most important to develop a strong foundation. The best dancers usually are the ones who have worked on their basics for years. When you keep taking Beginner classes, you are also helping the new students to progress faster, since they get to rotate & dance with more experienced dancers.
